South Texas Physician Outreach is requesting your support in improving the health and medical care of the impoverished people in Honduras, Central America.  Our organization was founded more than twenty years ago with the goal of providing medical and surgical care for people (mostly children) in the town of Santa Rosa de Copan in the only government supported/public hospital in that providence of Honduras, Hospital Regional Occidental.

We are a locally administered and fully nonprofit organization with an all volunteer staff and all San Antonio Board of Directors composed of surgeons, physicians, nurses, medical support individuals and civic minded citizens.  Our goal is to fully fund and transport a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses and others to the region each year (at a minimum) and to provide locally needed surgeries in those areas where the Hospital has demonstrated needs.

We have established well rooted connections in Honduras with the community, the Hospital staff and the patient populations as such differ from many other similar organizations.  It is not uncommon for many of our patients with complex congenital and acquired conditions to receive several operations over many years to correct deformities such as cleft palates and club feet as if they were in the US.
Most of our participant members make the trip annually and have many years of service to our organization.

We depend on the support of many local hospitals and companies in Bexar County for equipment, supplies and "borrowed" staff but obviously the cost of transporting large amounts of medical equipment and supplies to Central America is quite expensive.  We also cover the full cost of transporting, housing and feeding 25-30 individuals for one week annually in Santa Rosa. Therefore our only other major endeavor each year is raising the funds to accomplish both of these goals.

To that end, each August many family members and friends of our participants and our foundation organize a fundraising gala/jamboree here in San Antonio - the vast majority of our funds and operating budget come from this event. Beside ticket sales (which are kept low in price to maximize family attendance); we derive a large portion from our silent auction and raffle tickets sales from donated items for art work, gift certificates and collectibles.

Therefore, any donations are greatly appreciated and will be recognized at the event. You, of course, will receive all the necessary documentation to comply with the applicable tax regulations and validate our non-profit status.
On behalf of the entire organization and the Board of Directors of STPO, thank you in advance for your participation and for your sincere interest and compassion.

   Sincerely,

Alexandra Miller
